Trust me when I say this: Guys like Jon Priestly are nothing but trouble.

Ivy McAllister had it all. Perfect boyfriend. Perfect life. Perfect future. Or so they tell her. Because one night, on a dark country road, a fiery crash changed everything…and Ivy can’t remember what happened.

Now, two years later, at a new college far from home, she tries to regain control of her life, but her plans don’t include a tattooed, motorcycle-riding, indie music-obsessed guy with his own sorority girl fan club.

Jon Priestly is the hottest guy at Pacific State University. Just ask his groupies. But with a dark past he must keep hidden, he shuts himself off emotionally and trusts no one. That is…until he meets a broken girl with haunting green eyes and secrets of her own.

Ivy shouldn’t be attracted to Jon. They’re wrong for each other in every possible way. Yet as they spend time together, something about him—everything about him—feels so right.

But when threats from her past make her question what little she does remember, Ivy must decide whether to run again or trust the one person she can’t live without.

Fall into Forever excerpt:

Ivy
Jon’s coming up the steps now, all five girls in tow, one hanging off each arm. They’re each wearing matching pink T-shirts that say something about…church? Okay, that’s weird. Must be a sorority joke. Moving aside to let his entourage pass, I lean back against the porch pillar as Cassidy talks animatedly to that girl. As soon as she’s done, I’m going to tell her I want to go. I can feel the beginning of a headache starting to form at the base of my skull already.
Cassidy stops in midsentence and stares just over my shoulder. Something strong closes around my upper arm and pulls me around. However, instead of swiveling, the heel of my shoe slips on the wet porch floorboards. As if in slow motion, I’m falling headlong into a hard male body, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I hit that muscular chest with an umph and slide cheek-first down the black T-shirt, stopping literally inches from his belt.
And the bulge below it.
Oh my God. I am so freaking embarrassed right now.
“Whoa there, sweetheart.” Long-fingered hands cup my elbows and set me back on my feet. “You okay?” Jon’s voice is soft and tinged with amusement, but not cruel. Totally different from when he was talking to Chris.
“I’m…uh…fine.”
A clean scent, faintly spicy, fills my nostrils and lungs, invading my body, and courses through my veins like an illegal substance. He doesn’t loosen his grip or step away, and although my teal top has long sleeves, my skin burns where his hands are touching me.
Without blinking, he holds me at arm’s length and lets his gaze travel slowly over my body. Every inch of me tingles. And I mean every inch. My toes. The backs of my knees. Between my legs. My belly. My ears. My scalp. All my senses are on complete overload and for a split second I feel myself teetering. If he wasn’t holding onto me, I’d have to place a hand on the pillar to steady myself to keep from falling again.
He’s a good six or seven inches taller than I am, which is impressive, since I’m five foot eight. I’m used to looking guys straight on, or at least almost straight in the eye, so it’s a weird sensation for me to crank my head up like this. He’s got black gauges in his earlobes the size of a medium-tipped Sharpie. A bruise is starting to form under his left eye. Guess he took a few blows after all.
I should say something to fill the awkward silence between us, but nothing that’s not completely stupid comes to mind. Nice right hook or Good fight don’t seem appropriate.
His expression darkens, and I’m filled with a sense of unease again. It takes me a minute to realize he’s looking at the bloody jacket I’m holding and not me.
His female entourage has had enough of this interruption and tries to pull him away, but he shrugs them off. “Go inside,” he tells them without turning around. “I’ll be there in a minute.”
One of them protests, “But—”
“Go.”
None of them look too happy, but they do as they’re told. I’m struck by the fact that I was a lot like them just a short time ago—doing what a guy wanted me to do even if it wasn’t what I wanted. This break in focus snaps me out of la-la land and I regain some of my lost composure.
They file past us into the house, and each of them gives me the once-over. I want to tell them, “He’s all yours, ladies. Don’t know him. Don’t want to know him.” Instead, I straighten my spine and try to ignore my body’s insane physical reactions to this complete stranger. I can’t let a guy like him affect me this way. Not only does Jon Priestly sell drugs, he’s also got a violent temper. If I were in the market for a boyfriend right now, which I’m not, I’d pick a smart, sweet, law-abiding guy any day of the week.
“Your coat,” he says, frowning.
I shrug, pretending it’s no big deal. Part of me is afraid of him, but the rest of me is utterly fascinated. Who is this guy? He’s wild, almost primitive. And I’m too weak to resist. If he pushed me up against this pillar and kissed me right now, I might—just might—be stupid enough to kiss him back.
Geez, Ivy, you’re better than this. You’re not that stupid. Not anymore.
My inner voice is right. Why am I attracted to boys who aren’t good for me? I’m so disappointed in myself, I can hardly stand it. You’d think that after what I’ve been through, I’d be smarter than this. Obviously not. If I could slap my face right now, I totally would. No more guys with tempers. No more guys with cocky attitudes who think they’re the shit.
“Come inside. You can clean up there.” He makes a move toward the front door, assuming I’m going to follow him inside like an eager puppy.
Well, you know what? He’s wrong. I’m not interested in how he’s going to help me. I may be a fool, but I’m not stupid. Any hesitation on my part, any little opening, and bam, a guy like him will force his way in. And I don’t need that.
“No. That’s okay. I’ll wash it when I get home.”

Favorite Quotes: Beth shares her favorite quotes from Fall Into Forever, and explains why they’re special to her.

Like I said before, I’m no angel. Maybe that’s why I can easily spot an asshole.
~ Takes one to know one, right? I love Jon’s honesty.

“Thank you for…for wanting to beat the shit out of someone for me. That’s really…sweet of you.”
~ I love how Ivy is struck by the irony of the situation.

Keep calm. Act normal. He’s just a guy.
~ How many times have you been around a really good-looking guy and thought this? *swoon*

Ivy says: “I don’t believe in fate. If I did, I wouldn’t be here. Fate, if you can call it that, is what we make ourselves through our own actions.”
~ Like Jon, I am a huge Terminator fan. I’ve seen all of the movies multiple times and can quote lines. While flipping through the channels, I saw T2 was on and started watching (even though I own the movies, I never pass up watching it when it’s on TV). I got shivers when it came to the part that Ivy semi-quotes. I’d totally forgotten it. So I rewrote the scene, adding the movie reference. Also, that’s when I knew there’d be a part later where they’d watch it together. It was fate. ;-)

It’s as if I’ve been thirsty all my life but didn’t know it, and now I finally have water.
~ This marks a pivotal moment for Jon, because it’s when he stops denying that he has feelings for Ivy. Soon after this is the first love scene…and it’s hot.

She’s holding my face so that I’m forced to look at her without turning away. “You’re a good person, Jon Priestly. And if your dad is so self-centered and self-absorbed that he can’t or won’t be bothered to see the kind of son he’s fathered, then I’m incredibly sad for him. One day, he’s going to die. And you know what? He’ll never have known how much better his life would’ve been had you been a part of it.”
~ Reading this makes me teary again. Imagine how you would feel if your father rejected you, making you believe you were a mistake and should never have been born…and then someone tells you this.

I nestle in closer until my body is pressed to his, our contours matching. He feels like a man should feel. Strong, but respectful of those who aren’t. Protective, but not smothering. And capable of so much good. His hand slips over my hip to rest on the bare skin of my belly. His lips are in my hair. I shift slightly and… There. I feel his erection against my butt. A thrill skitters along my spine, then outward to my fingers and toes. Our contours don’t quite match anymore.
~ Mmmm Not sure this needs further explanation why I love this. It’s the perfect definition of a real man.

What is it about Ivy that hits all the right notes with me? She makes me laugh, makes me feel good about myself, and I’m not just saying that because she has my dick in her mouth right now. She has this amazing ability to drive away the darkness that has always been a part of my life.
~Aw, he’s having deep thoughts as he’s getting a blowjob. Isn’t that sweet? ;-)

 I need this.
I need Ivy.
She’s mine.
~ I love a man who’s a little possessive.

I grab her hand and lead her out of the mud. Zombies are waiting for us, but they leave us alone when they see our flags are gone. We’re one of them now.
“I always knew you were too perfect to be completely human,” I tell her.
“And I always knew there was something wild inside you.”
~ See how I’ve managed to work zombies into a book that’s not paranormal or post-apocalyptic?

Interesting Facts about Fall Into Forever

·         Jon’s last name (Priestly) popped into my head at the same time I heard him saying, “I’m no angel.” I thought the contrast was perfect!
·         At the party where they meet, when Jon falls at Ivy’s feet during the fight and when Ivy climbs out onto the roof, I knew the word Fall had to be in the title.
·         When Cassidy tells about her little brother visiting her and passing out in public wearing only leopard print underwear, it was based on what happened when my little brother and his friend visited me in college. We still laugh about it.
·         The book that Ivy references at the beginning about people being constructed from the parts of others is the YA book UNWIND by Neal Schusterman. It’s awesome!
·         I got to attend the photo shoot for the cover. The female model had the funniest expression on her face when the photographer told her to climb onto the guy’s lap, because the two of them had just met.
·         When I got an email reply from Christopher Poindexter saying he’d be honored to have his poem in my book, I fangirl-cried, took a pic of the email, and texted it to my daughter. (She and I both love his poetry.)
·         The fictional Pacific State University is located approximately near Aberdeen, WA (where Kurt Cobain grew up), and is mixture of the cool elements of Western Washington University (to the North) and Oregon State University (to the South).
·         I became concerned with issues about online safety when a Seattle police officer from the Internet crimes unit spoke to parents at my daughter’s school. The depravity of some people is sickening.
·         PSU Net, where students vote for the movie being shown free around campus all month, is based on Oregon State’s Beaver-Net.
·         When everyone meets outside Explorer Stadium before the start of the zombie race, I was envisioning a similar atmosphere (minus the zombies) outside OSU’s Reser stadium when I ran in the Corvallis Half Marathon last year.
·         I got the idea for a zombie race on campus because 1) I’ve always wanted to run in one and 2) they have a Humans vs. Zombies event on the OSU campus, pitting humans against zombies. You’re never safe. You must always be on guard.
